Red Rocks Amphitheater is one of the most unique places I have ever been and fortunately, it's right in my own backyard. Well...not exactly my backyard. I can hop in the car though and be there in thirty to forty minutes, depending on traffic.
Winter days in Colorado can be cloudy and bitter cold or perfectly sunny with a touch of warmth from that sun that feels like it lives closer to us than any other place on Earth. Today was one of those exceptionally sunny and warm days where the winds were still and the clouds only covered the sun for small moments of time, leaving the sun to shine down and warm my bones as I hiked the Red Rocks trails.
The trail we chose was only 1.4 miles round trip, but the stair climb up to the top of the amphitheater made it a bit more challenging of a hike. For the most part, the trail was flat, with only a few steeper spots. The remainder of the trail was pretty flat. Several other hikers, all being dragged by dogs, passed us by but not as many as you would think. With the warm sun shining down, I would have thought the trails would have been a bit more crowded.
Dave and I were the only two from our family to make the trip so it was nice to walk and talk and catch up from the busy week. Something about being out in nature, blanketed by a brilliant blue sky and being warmed by that golden, Colorado sky makes a person glad to be alive. The only piece missing from our trip was our two dogs. We weren't sure they would be permitted in the park, however now we know for our next trip.
Above are some of my favorites from the trip. I always like the landscape shots but having people in my photos is still my favorite.
