Visiting San Fransisco

I am a teacher so when I hear the words "spring break" I get a bit giddy. The Friday before spring break I believe even the calmest and quietest of teachers have that urge to do back flips down the hallway once all the little darlings have left the building. It's not like we won't miss all of them...we will, just imagine how excited we will all be on that first Monday back AFTER spring break (tongue in cheek moment).

I digress...

Spring Break 2009 found me in San Jose, California visiting my sister, who happens to be 8 months pregnant and her fantastic husband. What could be better than photographing a pregnant woman on the sandy beaches of California? How about having the Golden Gate Bridge as a backdrop? What about a field of flowers? Not to mention a home with that perfect lighting photographers dream of. I was in maternity portrait photographer heaven! I must have shot over 300 photos of my sister alone!

Not only was I able to feed my photography hunger on the maternity shoots, I was able to drive, trolley and walk around San Fransisco to capture all of those shots photographers dream of capturing. I came home with a camera loaded of the typical and not-so-typical San Fransisco landmarks. My photos ranged from a man dressed as a living plant that scared innocent people as they walked leisurely by, to bread cooling in the Sourdough factory window, to the standard Trolley car photo and classic Alcatraz Island shot.

I not only gained 5 pounds on my recent trip from being wined and dined each night at the local and unique restaurants California is known for, but I also gained about 1,000 new photos. What could be better? If only I could have packed my sister in my suitcase and brought her back with me. The next time I go there will be a baby. Hmmmmmmmm, I've have got to get some new memory cards!!!

Hi Melissa...thank you for your comment on my pics of last night's engagement shoot...However, first, must comment on this SF/pregnant sister blog post. Not only is your photography wonderful, but it is a delight to read your writing... English teacher possibly??? Yes, I know you are a writer, but it is a pleasure to read your words. There is a difference!
Anyway, thanks for your comments on my pics. I am all the more in awe of portrait work like yours the more I am getting myself into this. I am so hungry to be good at it, but realize more and more I need to get help with workflow and post processing as well as greater skills using light other than available. I very much appreciate your encouragement. Your photos are so beautiful they brought tears to my eyes...I must catch up on your new nephew, too..just been flitting from thing to thing and haven't caught time for him yet....but I will. Thanks again and enjoy your summer!!! Hillary
